Henan is home to 3,979 higher plant species, including 3 wild plant species under first-class state protection and 24 under second-class state protection. According to the second national terrestrial wild animal survey, the number of terrestrial vertebrate species across Henan has increased from 520 to 560 over the past 10 years. The number of rare and endangered wild animals and plants, including Baer"s pochards, Chinese merganser ducks and crested ibis, has been on the rise thanks to the province"s strengthened protection.
目前，河南省已知的高等植物有3979种，其中国家一级重点保护野生植物3种，国家二级重点保护野生植物24种。此外，第二次全国陆生野生动物资源调查初步显示，全省陆生脊椎动物由10年前的520种增加到目前的560种。全省青头潜鸭、中华秋沙鸭、朱鹮等一大批珍稀濒危野生动植物得到了有效保护。
